Using recycled precious metals

It's not always the case that the jewelry industry could be sustainable, it is mostly due to the fact that in order to make jewelries from metals, a lot of heat needs to be generated. These are mostly generated with the combination use of natural gas - derived from fossil fuel. While we still need to use gas in order to make jewelry, we're using 95% recycled precious metals (with exceptions to silver charms made from 999 silver clay). These recycled materials require less refinement, less use of heat to produce them, and therefore, less embodied energy. To us, it's a sustainable way to use recycled materials.

Using better materials with less compromising

When designing the creations at our store, we have 2 main focused materials: silver, and gold-filled. We don't use Sterling Silver (the most common type of silver offered in jewelry on the market), but use Argentium - this type of silver contains a little bite more pure silver, and is more resistant to tarnish (7times more resistant than sterling silver). They will stay white and shiny longer, and is more durable in many ways, yet flexible enough to let us be more creative with our creations.

The use of gold-filled materials in our collection is also important to achieve the gold-look, without compromises. Goldfilled has a layer that is usually 100 times thicker than that of gold-plated jewelries. This means that they can be worn really well, and will last decades or a lifetime, if being well taken care of. It is considered to be the next best thing to real gold. Additionally, wearing gold-filled eliminates the needs to replate gold every few months (which is a costly procedure, and not easily done). This is often the case with gold-plated steel products (or PVD plating - not available non-commercially).

Sustainable gemstones

Some, if not most of our current selection of gemstones are from secondhand sources. We scoured the gemstones on various platforms (such as Ebay, Kleinanzeige, Vinted), to look for deadstock, or old/discarded gems and pearls and find them new lives. Additionally, we (Khe), also cut gems from rough stones found from these secondhand markets. The gemstones found in German markets often have a higher quality than other sources, especially gemstonse from the Idar-Oberstein area.

Packaging

In 2024, we've able to move our packaging materials to 95% paper. 5% of the remaining are from plastic (the ribbon is made from rPET which is a better alternative to virgin polyester) and glue that are used to assemble everything together. Each order is shipped with GoGREEN from DeutschePost to compensate the CO2 emission from each shipment.
